Are you thinking about taking a role in running an existing family business, or starting a business with your family?
Host Mary McCarthy talks to two women in different situations in their family businesses. Catherine Zupan is the Director of Operations at Discover Publications, a company her father started more than 20 years ago. Her father has stepped down from the business, and she has purchased the company.
Kelly Davis is the Sales and Program Manager for LIZard Apparel & Promotions. Kelly works with her mother Beth, who is the CEO/Founder of the company, which began as a startup in 2013.
Both women have overcome challenges in navigating family relationships to get bigger decision-marking roles in their family businesses. They share their experiences with Mary, talking about why they left different careers to join these businesses, and why they love what they do.
“Remembering that you love the people you are working with. You are never going to lose your family. And you’ve gotta get past these conflicts.” – Catherine Zupan
“I’m amazed by what I’ve learned, I’ve processed throughout this industry, and I think we can take it to the next level, and I’ll be able to do it myself one day.” – Kelly Davis
